Wind Storms & Power Outages

Seasonal storms often bring heavy rain and high winds to the City of North Vancouver and the North Shore. High winds can bring down trees and branches causing power outages, road closures and traffic disruption.

Wind warnings are issued for most B.C. coastal regions when sustained winds of 65 km/h or greater or wind gusts of 90 km/h or greater are forecast. Check Environment Canada's Alerts for Metro Vancouver.

Power Outages

First check the BC Hydro outage map to see if your outage has been reported.

To report an outage call 1-800-BCHYDRO (1-800-224-9376) or *HYDRO (*49376) on your mobile or report it online. Remember to treat all downed power lines as 'live' or energized and stay at least 3 car lengths or 10 metres (30 feet) away. Get more tips from BC Hydro.

Residents without power who need a place to get warm can visit their local community centre during regular opening hours.
