Car Sharing

In the City of North Vancouver, you can join a car share program to gain access to a fleet of vehicles, including cars, trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles. Vehicles are distributed across the Lower Mainland, and can be reserved through smartphone apps, online, or over the phone.

The following car share operators are currently in service in the City, and offer different options depending on your needs:

  • Evo – One-way vehicles allowing users to begin and end their trip at different locations. Vehicles do not need to be parked in dedicated parking spaces.
  • Modo – Round-trip vehicles requiring users to begin and end their trip at the same location, in a dedicated parking space.

Why the City Supports Car Sharing

As part of the City’s Mobility Strategy, we are working to expand access to sustainable transportation options. Car sharing is an effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower the number of privately owned vehicles, and help manage traffic congestion.

By reducing the demand for parking, car sharing also creates opportunities for more pedestrian-friendly streets and improved public spaces, contributing to a more livable urban environment.

Benefits of Car Sharing

Car sharing provides flexible access to a vehicle without the costs and responsibilities of ownership.

Users can:

  • Save on expenses such as insurance, maintenance, fuel, and parking.
  • Access a vehicle when needed.
  • Combine car trips with walking, cycling, and public transit.
  • Support a shared system that promotes efficient use of resources.

Car sharing makes it easier to meet daily transportation needs while supporting a more sustainable and connected city.

Parking a Car Share Vehicle

Car share vehicles enjoy the benefit of multiple parking options. Parking options vary depending on which car share company you are using. Stop overs, where vehicles are parked but still reserved by a single user, in car share vehicles are only permitted in particular areas. Review the information below for details on parking signage and where you can and cannot park.
