Community Engagement

Get involved and help shape your city.

We want to hear from you and we’re working to ensure you have the opportunity to participate in what goes on at City Hall and at City Council.

What is Community Engagement?

Community engagement refers to processes led by the City where there is an opportunity for participants (residents, community organizations, businesses, other levels of government, etc.) to help shape the outcome of a project, policy or decision.

Community engagement can take many forms and employ a range of tools, but it frequently involves gathering experiences, ideas, and/or recommendations to help shape City policies, programs, designs, and initiatives. At the core of all engagement is a two-way process for information sharing and gathering.

What guides our Community Engagement?

The City of North Vancouver has developed its first Community Engagement Framework so that people who live, work and play within our city have meaningful opportunities to impact the decisions that affect their lives.

The Framework is a document that outlines the kind of community engagement that the City strives to implement and is aligned with research and informed practices, such as the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. The work also draws on the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Spectrum and Principles. IAP2 is a globally-recognized organization that provides standards to support entities that affect the public interest in Canada and around the world.
