Each year, the City receives funds provided by commercial and production companies that operate in the City to support emerging young filmmakers pursuing their film education, including the City's Cinelab Youth Bursary and North Vancouver City Library's annual summer filmmaking workshops.
Cinelab
The City's Cinelab Bursary supports youth interested in attending Cinelab, a two-week summer filmmaking program for aspiring artists aged 14-19, presented by The Cinematheque in partnership with UBC’s Department of Theatre and Film. Our bursary is available to students who live, work, or study in the City of North Vancouver. Visit the Cinelab website for details on courses and how to apply.
The program is offered twice annually each summer:
- Program 1: Two weeks in July
- Program 2: Two weeks in late July/Early August
Note: This program is located in UBC Campus - Point Grey.
City Library Filmmaking Workshops
Join our five-day filmmaking workshop for youth in grades 7-12 at the City Library. Young filmmakers create an original short film with guidance from experienced professionals. In small crews, participants explore every step of the filmmaking process—from scripting to shooting to editing.
Workshops are offered twice annually:
- Workshop 1: March Spring Break
- Workshop 2: One week in August
Presented by the North Vancouver City Library and The Cinematheque, these workshops are fully funded by the City of North Vancouver through donations from local productions.
