As of November 1, 2023, building permit applications for new residential buildings newly-constructed residential buildings are required to demonstrate compliance with one of two Energy Step Code compliance options:

Building Permit applications for new residential buildings processed on or after November 1st 2023 must include the applicable portion of the Provincial BC Step Code Compliance Checklist – Performance Paths For Part 9 Buildings, which can be found at energystepcode.ca/compliance-tools-part9.

For Renovations to Residential Buildings and Non-Residential Buildings:
As of November 1, 2023, renovations to residential buildings and newly-constructed non-residential buildings must show compliance with Section 9.36 of the BCBC. Building Permit Applications must include (at least):
