Councillor Shervin Shahriari

Councillor Shervin ShahriariI am grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of the City of North Vancouver as a new City Councillor. Continuing to connect and discuss your priorities will be an important focus for me over the next four years.

I believe we need to increase affordable housing for people who live and work in our community. Traffic-related congestion, pollution and employee retention challenges can be all improved if more people who work in the City can afford to live here. We also need to find affordable homes for renters displaced due to new development.

I would like to see us plant many more trees, protect old healthy trees, support community gardens, parks and energy efficient buildings. I look forward to supporting our recreational, library, museum and public safety services.

I support measures that increase our health service capacity for walk-in clinics, doctors’ offices, childcare and senior care facilities. I believe in improving transit, accessibility and active transportation infrastructure.

Biography

I have lived in North Vancouver for over 35 years. In the 1990s, I was a youth worker with North Shore Family Services Society. I went on to volunteer as Chair and Commissioner of North Vancouver Museum and Archives Commission (2002-2009), and Chair and Trustee of North Vancouver City Library Board (2010-2016). I also wrote a local history book called North Vancouver’s Lonsdale Neighbourhood (Arcadia Publishing, 2009).

After a 30-year career in planning, project management, and technology management, I am now a faculty member and lecturer with Langara School of Management where I teach project management, operations management, and business management.

I was previously a senior planning manager of TransLink Business Technology Services. In addition to being a project management professional (PMP), I have a Bachelor of Science and an Executive Master of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University.
