Construction

What’s Happening Now

The overall construction of the new centre has now surpassed the 85% complete stage. The building structure and exterior envelope are now complete, with interior finishes underway, including wall, ceiling and floor finishing. Mechanical and electrical equipment infrastructure is at 90% completion and testing of major building systems is underway. Tiling work in the aquatics area is progressing well and the arena is near complete. The exterior works currently include soil grading and planting with final concrete sidewalks and exterior furniture to come later in spring.

The aquatics area, washrooms and changerooms are 90% complete and the pool tank bottoms for both the leisure and the lap pools are undergoing final waterproofing in preparation for final tiling. The welcome atrium glazing is completed and the inner courtyard is being prepared for landscape features. A new café is planned for the welcome atrium and will be a vibrant component of the overall facility.

The City is building the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre next to Centennial Theatre at the corner of East 23rd Street and Lonsdale Avenue. The current Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre, Memorial Gymnasium and Centennial Theatre will continue to remain open and operating during construction. The Mickey McDougall Recreation Centre is currently undergoing energy and accessibility upgrades, along with interior renovations in preparation of becoming the new home of Flicka Gymnastics Club.
