North Shore Recycling & Waste Centre

The North Shore Recycling and Waste Centre accepts many more items than what’s collected by Recycle BC in your weekly pickup.

The Centre's Recycling Drop-Off Area (located beside the transfer facility) accepts many materials free of charge. In addition, other materials are accepted for a fee at the paid materials area of the Waste Centre.

Items to Recycle for Free

You can help reduce waste by recycling these items free of charge at the Recycling Drop-off Area.

  • Books (for donation)
  • Cellular phones
  • Clothing (for donation)
  • Cooking oil
  • Corrugated Cardboard
  • Electronics
  • Expanded polystyrene (i.e. styrofoam) - white and coloured
  • Film packaging
  • Glass packaging
  • Gasoline (must be in approved ULC container, limit 25L per container)
  • Lamps and light fixtures
  • Metals: Scrap metal, metal appliances, outdoor power equipment, metal packaging (maximum four refrigeration appliances)
  • Used oil and antifreeze materials (including used oil, used oil filters, used antifreeze, and used oil and antifreeze containers)
  • Paint products and solvents
  • Recyclable paper and paper packaging
  • Pesticides (must be in original labelled container, limit 10L per container)
  • Plastic packaging
  • Propane tanks
  • Small appliances and power tools
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
  • Thermostats

Flexible Plastic Packaging

Flexible Plastic Packaging is one of the fastest growing packaging types on the market and the largest category of packaging that previously wasn’t collected by Recycle BC. Learn more on the Recycle BC website.

Flexible Plastic Packaging includes:

  • packaging with plastic seal
  • net bags
  • crinkly wrappers and bags
  • stand-up pouches
  • zipper lock bags
  • bubble wrap

Used Household Motor Oil & Antifreeze Recycling

Looking to recycle used household motor oil, oil filters, or antifreeze? There's an easy, free, and eco-friendly way to dispose of used household oil and antifreeze materials on the North Shore.

The North Shore Recycling and Waste Centre accepts used oil and antifreeze materials, including used oil, used oil filters, used antifreeze, and used oil and antifreeze containers. Look for the drop-off location as shown below.

By recycling these products, you're helping protecting the environment and making sure valuable resources can be recovered and re-used. Please ensure caps are tightly sealed so nothing leaks out.

Where Else You Can Recycle

There are many ways to recycle on the North Shore.

Return-It Depots 

There are two Return-It Depots in the City, and both of them accept the following items for recycling at no cost:

  • textiles and clothing
  • paint
  • small appliances
  • end-of-life electronics
  • styrofoam
  • flexible plastic packaging
  • soft plastic

Provincial Take-Back Programs

Many items such as tires, electronics, and medications can also be recycled or disposed of safely through a provincial collection program. There are several convenient locations in the community to drop off your materials.

London Drugs

London Drugs locations accept a variety of items for recycling which were purchased in their stores. Items include flexible plastic packaging, batteries, light bulbs, and small applicances. Learn more on the London Drugs Green Deal website.

Items to Dispose of for a Fee

Some materials such as mattresses, new and used gypsum/drywall, green waste and clean wood are accepted for a fee at the paid materials area of the Waste Centre.

Facility Location

The North Shore Recycling & Waste Centre facility is located at 30 Riverside Drive West, North Vancouver, with separate entrances for Recycling and other drop offs.
