New Eligible Voters Encouraged to Register to Vote by August 23

August 09, 2022

The City of North Vancouver is encouraging new eligible voters to register to vote by Tuesday, August 23 to get on the voters list for the upcoming local government election taking place Saturday, October 15. Registering in advance makes the voting process more efficient and easier.

Registering to Vote

The City of North Vancouver uses the most current available provincial list of voters provided by Elections BC. To register in advance or update your personal information, visit the Elections BC Register to Vote webpage or call 1-800-661-8683 by mid-August. Voters may also register to vote or update their personal information at the City Clerk’s Department, 141 West 14th Street, until August 23.

Anyone who voted in the last provincial election in British Columbia should be on the City of North Vancouver’s voter list and will not need to register again. If you are not sure if you are registered, find out by contacting the City Clerk’s Department at 604-982-8354 or 604-982-4233 or by visiting City Hall in person during regular business hours.

Voters who do not register by Tuesday, August 23 may still do so when they vote on General Voting Day on Saturday, October 15, at any of the advance voting opportunities, or when requesting a mail ballot package online at cnv.org/vote.

To register, voters must provide two pieces of identification to prove identity and residential address, and one of the pieces of identification must also include their signature (e.g. driver's licence, BC Services Card). If neither piece of identification shows residential address, voters may make a solemn declaration as to place of residence.

Who Can Vote?

Eligible voters in the City of North Vancouver must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • A Canadian citizen;
  • Age 18 or older on the day of registration or General Voting Day;
  • A resident of the City of North Vancouver on the day of registration;
  • A resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • Not disqualified by any enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.
