With the election just a few months away, now is a good time to save the date and make sure your voter information is up to date.
About the General Local Election
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, City of North Vancouver voters will elect one mayor, six councillors and three school trustees for School District No. 44.
Local elected officials help set direction on programs, services and priorities that shape the community, including infrastructure, public spaces, emergency services, community facilities, parks, planning, budgets and other City services.
Save the date
There are several ways to cast your ballot!
General voting day: On October 17, 2026, eligible voters can cast their ballot at any of the nine voting locations across the City.
Advance polls: Vote at City Hall on October 7, 10, 13, 14 and 15.
Vote by mail: Complete an application form online between August 31 and October 1 at 11:59 p.m. Packages and instructions will be mailed to registered voters in late September / early October. Mail voters must ensure that their completed ballots and required documents are submitted to the Chief Election Officer before 8:00 p.m. on October 17 (via mail, courier, or in-person at City Hall). Register early to vote
If you're voting for the first time, or if you've recently moved or changed your name, you can register early or update your voter information by visiting Elections BC before the August 18, 2026 advanced registration deadline.
If you’re not sure if you’re already registered, you can re-submit the advance registration form on the Elections BC website.
If you miss the advance registration deadline, you can still register when you vote by bringing acceptable voter ID (more information on our website).
Interested in running for office?
Candidate nomination packages, which include the official forms and information required to run, can be downloaded at cnv.org/candidates or picked up in person at City Hall, 141 West 14th Street.
The nomination period runs from September 1–11, 2026.
Who can run for office?
A person is qualified to be nominated, elected and hold office for local government if they meet all of the following criteria:
- A resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed;
- 18 years or older on General Voting Day, October 17, 2026;
- A Canadian citizen; and
- Not disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office, or otherwise disqualified by law.
Candidates must also be nominated by at least two qualified City of North Vancouver electors.
