Interested in Running for Local Office?

Elections for the offices of Mayor, Councillor, and School Trustee are for four year terms. To be eligible to run for local government office in a general local election or a by-election, a person must have been a resident of B.C. at least six months immediately before filing their nomination documents. They do not have to live or own property in the area where they are running for office.

In addition, a person must:

• Be 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day;
• Be a Canadian citizen;
• Have been a resident of British Columbia at least six months immediately prior to the date of nomination; and
• Not be disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in B.C. or from being nominated for, being elected to or holding office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

1. At least two qualified City of North Vancouver electors (whose names must be on Elections BC’s list of electors) must nominate you in accordance with the Local Government Act.

Please note that:

• If you currently work for the City of North Vancouver or School District #44, you must take a leave of absence before being nominated.
• Federal Government employees must apply to the Public Service Commission for permission to run in the election.

Nomination Packages are now available. Packages can be downloaded (see links below) or picked up in hard copy at North Vancouver City Hall during regular business hours (8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding holidays).

The Nomination Period 

The nomination period under the Local Government Act opens on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. and closes on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.  Nomination Documents must be submitted to the Chief Election Officer or designate by Friday, September 11, 2026 at 4:00 pm. Nomination Documents can be delivered: 

1. In person at North Vancouver City Hall, 141 West 14th Street, North Vancouver, BC V7M 1H9 (booking an appointment is recommended)
2. By mail or other delivery service
3. By Fax at 604-990-4202
4. By Email to elections@cnv.org

It is recommended that candidates make an appointment when submitting their nomination documents to the Chief Election Officer or designate. To make an appointment, please contact the Elections Office at elections@cnv.org or call 604-990-4233 or 604-220-1361.

Candidate Profile

Each candidate for Mayor, Councillor, or School Trustee in the City of North Vancouver 2026 General Local Election may submit a Candidate Profile Information form. This is a voluntary form.

The completed Candidate Profile Information form and candidate photo (if submitting), must be received by the Chief Election Officer by the close of the nomination period (September 11, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.). If the information is not received by the deadline, it will not be posted on the City website. 

The Chief Election Officer is not responsible for verifying or investigating the accuracy of information provided in the candidate profiles, and will include such a statement in the candidate profile publication to the City website. The Chief Election Officer also reserves the right to include a disclaimer statement concerning the accuracy of individual candidate profiles.
