New Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre and Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre to Open July 25, 2026

June 3, 2026

The City of North Vancouver is excited to announce the date for opening day of both the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC) and the Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre (SH) as Saturday, July 25. The opening day celebration will feature a formal ceremony with Mayor and Council followed by family-friendly performances and activities including opportunities to tour the facilities.

Earlier today Mayor Linda Buchanan announced July 25 as the opening day for the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre and Silver Harbour Senior’s Activity Centre.

“I am incredibly proud that after more than 20 years of planning, engagement and determination, this transformative milestone is finally here. Harry Jerome lived by the motto, "Never give up." That spirit is woven into this project — and into the future we are building together as the Healthiest Small City in the World,” said Buchanan.

“On behalf of Council, I invite you to join us for what will be an incredible day to celebrate the new centres and community in what will be a day to remember.”

The opening celebrations will begin with performances and welcome remarks by Mayor Linda Buchanan, accompanied by City Council and other special guests. Throughout the day, the Centre’s indoor and outdoor spaces will be activated by the City and North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission (NVRC), giving visitors a chance to tour the facility and try out its programs and amenities. The opening event will also feature food carts, performers, games, crafts and activities throughout HJCRC.

An indoor playground and games in the Early Years room will give young children a place to have fun, while the multi-use arena will have sport demonstrations and carnival games for those of all ages. Visitors can learn the styles of Bollywood and line dancing in one of the multipurpose spaces. Or they can try healthy snacks in the community kitchen and check out all the new cooking appliances.

Instructors will demonstrate yoga, Pilates, spin, TRX and other fitness classes to provide visitors a preview of active programs. For those looking for creative activities, there will be airbrush tattoos, live music, painting, bead bracelet making, group weaving and more. A low sensory space will also be available for those hoping to relax and enjoy quiet activities.

As part of the broader area’s revitalization, a brand-new Silver Harbour Seniors' Activity Centre will open July 25, as well. Developed by the City in partnership with Silver Harbour, the new centre will replace the current 1973 building with more accessible and contemporary space for local adults aged 55 and over.

Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre has long been a vibrant hub, offering more than 70 programs and services, from woodworking and pottery to choir and fitness classes. The new facility will expand on this legacy with larger, more flexible program areas, a fully-equipped kitchen for meal services, and improved amenities including wider hallways, larger elevators and more accessible washrooms.

Strategically located next to the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre, the facility will strengthen intergenerational connections.

The new HJCRC includes an NHL-sized arena for ice and para ice hockey, skating and lacrosse; a dynamic aquatics area featuring a 25-metre pool and wellness amenities such as a steam room, sauna, and both family and adult hot pools; a fitness area with indoor and outdoor fitness and training spaces; and a full-sized gymnasium with an Olympic-standard-sized court for court sports and other activities.

The Centre will connect members of all ages and abilities. With multipurpose rooms, a preschool, dedicated youth and arts spaces, a fully-equipped community kitchen, inner courtyard and a spacious welcome atrium, the facility is designed to bring people together and strengthen community bonds.

The new HJCRC will be operated and programmed by North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission (NVRC). Beyond NVRC’s core services, the new HJCRC will introduce new programs, events and activations to bring every space to life.
