City Closes Recreational and Cultural Facilities

March 16, 2020
  • Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre: The facility will be closed. Spring Break camps will continue.
  • John Braithwaite Community Centre: The facility will be closed. Shower program for homeless will continue.
  • Centennial Theatre: The theatre will be closed.
  • North Vancouver City Library: The library will be closed. Library material due dates extended to April 30, fines waived. Digital and online services remain available.

Additional mitigation measures are also underway. As directed by the BC Provincial Health Officer, all gatherings of 50 people or more will be cancelled or postponed. The City also encourages members of the community conducting business with the City, including paying property taxes and utility bills, to use online services rather than coming to City Hall. While open houses are suspended, there are multiple engagement and input opportunities available online.

“These are stressful and unprecedented times, and we are taking the necessary and important steps to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus,” said Mayor Linda Buchanan. “It is up to all of us to reduce transmission. Washing your hands regularly and distancing yourself socially remains the most important steps individuals can take. Closing public facilities, cancelling public events, and following the advice of federal and provincial health authorities is critical for our community. Let’s look after one another, and support those who may be in need of help.”

The City is actively monitoring updates and recommendations as provided by local, regional, provincial and federal health authorities. We continue to work closely with our agencies, partners and neighbouring municipalities on a proactive approach to deal with the COVID-19 virus and will adjust our response based upon direction from public health officials.
