City Installs First Rainbow Crosswalk on the North Shore

August 16, 2019

The City of North Vancouver, together with the North Shore Pride Alliance has unveiled the City’s first Pride rainbow crosswalk.

"Our new Pride crosswalk sends an important message about who we are as a community,” says Mayor Linda Buchanan. “Our City embraces and celebrates diversity in all forms including sexual orientation and gender identity. I’m very proud of our rainbow crosswalk, a symbol of our solidarity with the LGBTQ2+ community, demonstrating that everyone is welcome in our City.”.

"The rainbow flag is a beacon of light to all who feel alone and other'd,” say Christopher Bolton and Gary Woods, Co-Founders of the North Shore Pride Alliance. “This intersection is for everyone in our community. Our intent, wish and hope with this beautiful crosswalk is that it will spark conversation.”

The City’s new Pride crosswalk comes on the heels of a successful Pride Week which included the Pride at the Pier event at The Shipyards, and a Pride flag raising celebration at City Hall.
