Roadwork Updates

Roadwork and construction occurs throughout the City on an intermittent basis. During these times, the City advises residents and commuters to expect minor traffic delays and parking disruptions, and to choose an alternate route if possible. Signage is posted prior to any road closures, and regular updates are provided.

We recognize the inconvenience roadwork may cause, and thank you in advance for your understanding and patience. All City roadwork is described in the table below, and shown on the map in red.

100 Blk W 18th St  June 16, 2025  June 17, 2025 Crane work involved in an HVAC replacement on a rooftop. During the construction, there may be disruptions to roadways: full closure on W 18th St for crane placement, with detours in place. No impact to Lonsdale. Flaggers on-site to assist vehicles, first responders, pedestrians, and cyclists around the work zone. South sidewalk closed during hoisting. Access to residences and businesses in the area will be maintained, and all crosswalks will remain open at all times. Work hours: 7am-3pm.
100 Blk E 15th St. From the laneway east of Chesterfield Ave to Lonsdale Ave April 1, 2025 June 30, 2025 Installation of LEC district energy pipes to 128 W 15th St. Closure of westbound traffic (one-way eastbound) on 100 Blk W 15th St for the duration of the project. Full road closure required on 15th St for approx. 3 weeks. Impact to northbound-southbound traffic on Lonsdale for approx. 4 weeks in June. Buses detoured to 13th St between Lonsdale Ave and Jones Ave (both directions). Construction Hours: 7AM-3PM.
400 Blk E 3rd St June 2, 2025 June 3, 2025 The City of North Vancouver’s Utilities Section will be severing old water services along the 400 Block of East 3rd Street. The work will take approximately 2 days to complete and will begin on Monday June 2, 2025. The hours of work will be from 7:00 am through to 4:30 pm each day. During the hours of construction, the 400 Block of East 3rd Street will be single lane in each direction. Parking restrictions will be in place and flag personnel will be on site to assist with traffic control. The work site will be kept as compact and tidy as is reasonably possible.
800 Blk of East 3rd Street (between Queensbury Ave and Heywood Street) June 11, 2025 June 11, 2025 The City of North Vancouver’s Parks Section will be performing invasive vegetation removal work adjacent to the roadway in the 800 block of East 3rd Street on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm. A flail mower will be clearing vegetation along the edge of the roadway for public safety reasons. A traffic management plan has be created to minimize disruption to vehicle travel along the active work site. One eastbound travel lane and one westbound travel lane will remain open during active work. Traffic Control Services will be on site to guide vehicles and divert bike users to share the roadway (which will remain open).
 

Road Maintenance

The City maintains approximately 130 km of streets, 42 km of lanes, 145 km of sidewalks, 52 traffic signals, and 1,700 streetlights to ensure the safe and comfortable mobility of the community. Road maintenance includes street cleaning, ice and snow control, pothole patching, traffic sign installations and replacements, line marking, vegetation control, and re-lamping of streetlights and signals as required.   

In addition to routine road-related maintenance, the City repaves approximately two kilometres of streets annually, based on a computerized infrastructure management program. The City also removes and replaces approximately 1,200 m of sidewalk annually, primarily in commercial areas with high pedestrian volume.

Well-maintained roads and walkways contribute to the efficient, effective movement of people and goods, but the City also envisions a greener road ahead. Any roadway expansion will only be supported if it furthers the City's vision of a sustainable community. By optimizing the use of its existing road network, the City aims to encourage more and more people to choose alternative transportation other than the single occupant vehicle.
