Season's Greetings from Mayor Mussatto

Holiday time has returned to the City of North Vancouver, bringing exciting new activities for the whole family to enjoy, and much to celebrate.

The Shipyards will be alive with even more to see and experience than ever before. Check out the added festive lights, holiday markets and our popular annual Christmas Festival. And don’t miss taking a ride on the Sky Wheel, sure to be a highlight and an unforgettable attraction at The Shipyards. As always, the Park & Tilford Gardens will dazzle with a spectacular light display – a great way to spend a December evening.

We are approaching the end of 2017 with more than just the holidays to celebrate. Polygon Gallery opened its doors at the Foot of Lonsdale on November 18th, making high-calibre media arts more prominent and accessible to City residents and beyond. The adjoining public plaza, water feature and Spirit Trail connection are on schedule for completion in spring 2018, along with the underwater Mosquito Creek Marina Spirit Trail section. And I can hardly wait for this time next year when we will be skating on a new outdoor ice rink on Lot 5 at The Shipyards.

In 2017, the City of North Vancouver continued to be recognized for our leadership and innovative partnerships. At the annual Union of BC Municipalities Convention, the City received an award from the Community Energy Association for public sector collaboration on the Safe and Active School Travel Program. In the summer, the Planning Institute of BC awarded the City Gold for Excellence in Planning Practice (City & Urban Areas) for the Moodyville Neighbourhood-Wide Rezoning Initiative.

With so much to be thankful for here in the City of North Vancouver, we have an opportunity to reflect on the ways we can maintain and grow our caring, diverse and sustainable City and be attentive to those who need our help during the holiday season and throughout the year. I look forward to 2018 and engaging with residents, businesses, staff and Council in our ongoing work to build on the City’s successes for another great year ahead.

Best wishes to everyone for a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.

Darrell Mussatto
