Bewicke Park / Mosquito Creek

This habitat enhancement project saw a reconfiguration of the shoreline edge of Bewicke Park. A series of habitat benches were provided to create an upper intertidal area, intertidal reef (riprap) and salt marsh, as well as the naturalization of the Mosquito Creek channel. These habitat improvements were completed in coordination with Squamish Nation’s Mosquito Creek habitat improvements just upstream. Collectively, these improvements have directly benefited juvenile salmonids and other marine and plant life. The function of Bewicke Park was also greatly enhanced with new planting areas, increased seating, improved aesthetics and enhanced shoreline protection.

The project was completed in the Spring of 2015. As the habitat jetty matures, we are monitoring test plots to determine the most successful plant species for long term success.
