Harbourside West Overpass

On June 9, 2011, the City celebrated the official opening of the Harbourside West Overpass. At 280m, it provides a vital link across three railway tracks to connect Kings Mill Walk to West 1st Street at the District of North Vancouver boundary.

The Harbourside West Overpass is located at the western edge of the City just south of East 1st Street at Mackay Avenue. The Overpass is a key link in the North Shore Spirit Trail.

The Harbourside West Overpass spans the CN Rail lines, providing a safe, convenient and accessible route for all, enhancing local community connections, providing sustainable travel alternatives and encouraging walking, cycling and wheeled user access. The overpass improves connections between the City's Marine Drive neighbourhood and Harbourside Business Park, which were previously only easily accessible via motorized vehicle use.

Harbourside West Overpass Project Highlights

  • The Harbourside West Overpass was completed in June 2011 at a total cost of $3.6 million.
  • The City received a $1 million grant from the provincial government to assist in the creation of the overpass.
  • The City received an additional $1,600,776 grant from the federal and provincial governments to assist in the construction of the overpass.
