Esplanade Bike Route

The City of North Vancouver recognizes the value of the Marine-Main corridor via Esplanade for cyclists traveling to Lower Lonsdale and across the North Shore. The route is direct and avoids much of the topography that is characteristic of North Vancouver. The Marine-Maine corridor and particularly Esplanade services many across the North Shore; moving goods to service business and industry, transporting people by bus, bike and vehicle as well as being a hub of commercial activity.

While we celebrated adding bike lanes to this corridor not 10 years ago, based on the best practices of the day, our understanding of what makes a quality bike route has advanced rapidly. The result is the corridor does not meet the needs of cyclists today.

The City would like to invite everyone to participate in the evolution of the corridor. Starting in Spring 2020 the City will begin consultation with stakeholder groups including the cycling community, businesses, transit and trucking associations to understand the needs of the users of the corridor and begin to develop a vision for its evolution.
