How Our City Works

Mayor and Council

The City of North Vancouver is run by City Council, a group of seven elected officials who were voted into office, which happens every four years.

They meet every Monday at City Hall to discuss our City and make important decisions about our community.

City Council & City Hall are in charge of:

FIXING OUR STREETS & SIDEWALKS

Our Engineering department takes care of our water, sewage, streets, trails, and sidewalks.

GARBAGE, RECYCLING & GREEN CAN

Our big trucks empty your trash and yard waste bins, and Emterra takes recycling away.

MAINTAINING OUR PARKS

Who cuts the grass and makes sure our playgrounds, fields and trails are looking nice? That’s our Parks and Engineering team.

OUR LIBRARY

Not only does it have books, the library runs programs, events and activities throughout the year for everyone to enjoy.

PLANNING OUR CITY

Our Planning department designs our community so we have enjoyable neighbourhoods with access to parks, transit, recreation & nature.

KEEPING US SAFE

The City has a Fire Department and the North Vancouver RCMP. They’re ready to help if you need them.

Public Art

We have beautiful public art all over the City. The North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission gets artists to create these art pieces for us to enjoy.

RECREATION CENTRES

Harry Jerome and John Braithwaite are the City's recreation centres where you can take classes and have fun. We're building a new Harry Jerome centre!

BEING GREEN

Our Living City team makes sure we protect our environment by recycling and using energy wisely.

BUDGET

Our Finance department keeps us on budget, and takes care of of paying for the services we provide to you.

FOLLOWING THE RULES

Our Bylaw Officers make sure that people park properly and are good neighbours.

EMERGENCY PLANS

NSEM are the people who help when there’s a big storm, huge snowfall, or earthquake. They also teach emergency preparedness.

FUN FOR KIDS, YOUTH & FAMILIES

Festivals, concerts & markets, plus restaurants and shopping – there’s something for everyone at The Shipyards. Skate in the winter and splash in the summer!

BEING A FUN COMMUNITY

The City hosts many community events including Family Movie Nights in the Plaza, Kids in the Hall, and the annual Christmas Festival. Fun for the whole family.

How to stay in touch with City Hall
