Cycling

The City of North Vancouver supports cycling as a healthy, efficient and non-polluting transportation option for both commuter and recreational cyclists. In keeping with the vision outlined in the Official Community Plan, the City is working to improve the bicycle route network and provide facilities to encourage cycling.

Council approved the Priority Corridors for All Ages and Abilities (AAA) in the fall of 2019, prioritizing key corridors for infrastructure upgrades across the City. The creation of AAA mobility lanes is a Council priority, and the City is moving forward with priority corridors for All Ages and Abilities mobility lanes. In addition to creating more protected bike lanes and off-street pathways, these priority lanes will connect key destinations in the City making it easier for people to choose alternate forms of transportation.

The first phase of prioritization is construction of the off Marine bike route and consultation on the Esplanade and mid town routes. Preliminary design work for Esplanade began in 2019 with City staff cycling the route with HUB representatives. Consultation with the broader community including business, residents, transit operators and riders, as well as the trucking association, begins later this spring simultaneously with the 'Lonsdale Great Streets' work to ensure cohesive design and community input. Council has provided preliminary approval of the budget for consultation and construction of Esplanade. Construction is expected to begin in 2021.
