The City of North Vancouver is seeking reliable, civic minded individuals to serve as Election Workers for the 2026 Municipal Election. Successful applicants will be hired as casual/auxiliary exempt City employees for the election period, from September 1, 2026 to October 30, 2026.

Key Information

  • Election Workers will be hired as casual/auxiliary exempt City employees for the election period. 
  • All Election Workers will be scheduled for General Voting Day: October 17, 2026.
  • Some roles include one 3 to 4 hour Advance Voting shift.
  • Mandatory training for all Election Workers.
  • Hourly pay, including overtime where applicable.
  • Preference for candidates with previous election experience.

Election Worker Positions

Presiding Election Official (PEO)

Oversees all aspects of voting day at a voting place. This position is ideal for persons with management and election experience who are confident decision-makers with strong problem-solving skills.

Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO)

Supports the Presiding Election Official (PEO) by assisting with many voting day responsibilities. This is a great opportunity for persons with previous experience to build their skills.

Registration Clerk (RC)

Registers new voters on the voters list, including checking documentation and issuing ballots. This position is ideal for persons with excellent customer service skills who are comfortable using computers and enjoy working directly with the public.

Election Official (EO)

Guides voters through each step of the voting process, including checking documentation and issuing ballots. This position is ideal for persons with excellent customer service skills who are comfortable using computers and enjoy working with the public.

Runners

Provides overall courier support on election day at Election Headquarters and the voting places, including dropping off and picking-up supplies, loading and unloading of election equipment, removing election signs contrary to the Election Sign Bylaw, covering meal breaks for reception staff at Election Headquarters, and assisting Election Workers as needed.

Training

All Election Workers are required to complete online and in-person training as per below:

In-Person PEO and APEO September 29, 2026 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
In-Person All Election Workers (including PEOs and APEOs) October 1, 2026 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

If you cannot access the online training or attend the in-person training, additional options may be available. 

Training covers election rules, procedures, voting equipment, accessibility guidelines, and safety.

Voting Schedule (for Election Workers)

Advance Voting: 

  • Presiding Election Officials and Alternate Presiding Election Officials are required to work one 3–4 hour Advance Voting shift, scheduled based on the schedule and their availability.
  • Registration Clerks are encouraged to work one 3–4 hour Advance Voting shift based on the schedule and their availability.
  • Election Officials may choose to work one 3–4 hour Advance Voting shift, which will be assigned based on the schedule and their availability.

  • Saturday, October 10 — 10:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Tuesday, October 13 — 10:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • Wednesday, October 14 — 8:00 AM–8:00 PM
  • Thursday, October 15 — 10:00 AM–6:00 PM

General Voting Day:

All Election Workers are required to work on General Voting day on October 17, 2026 (14-15 hours approx.) at their assigned voting place. Additional time may be required for setup or closing activities as needed.
