September 30 marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters.
Both National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day are observed annually on September 30 to recognize the tragic and lasting impacts of Canada's Residential School system and to honour survivors, families and communities. On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, City Hall will be lit up orange in commemoration.
Ways to Honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Across the City
The City encourages everyone to honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation through education, local events, ceremonies and reflection.
Attend the NVCL Indigenous History and Culture Series on September 26

on Saturday, September 26 from 11 a.m. to noon to learn about Truth and Reconciliation through the library's Indigenous History and Culture Series.

Join the September 29 Ceremony to Honour Residential School Survivors
All are invited to gather on September 29 at 11 a.m. at the Strength & Remembrance Pole for a
Ceremony to Honour Residential School Survivors,
led by Elder Xele'milh. The Strength & Remembrance Pole is located in Stella Jo Dean Plaza near the North Vancouver RCMP detachment.
Organizers of the ceremony include the Integrated First Nations Unit, North Vancouver RCMP, First Nations Court and the North Shore Violence Against Women Committee.

on Wednesday, September 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a day of cultural experiences and reflection in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Led by MONOVA's Indigenous Cultural Programmers, visitors can engage in hands-on activities, guided tours and more to help inspire meaningful dialogue about the history of Indigenous rights. All ages are welcome, and tickets are by donation or pay-what-you-can.
