The City of North Vancouver is celebrating Rivers Day with a free community event featuring fun activities for all ages. The event will include music, games, community booths and an invasive plant pull and takes place Sunday, September 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Heywood Park (1634 Hamilton Ave, south of Tobruck Avenue).
World Rivers Day, held every September, is a global event used to celebrate our local waterways and encourage improved waterway stewardship. Our annual celebration is a testament to the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its longstanding collaboration with the volunteer City Park Stewards program.
This year’s free event will include:
- Children’s activities and music
- Invasive plant pull and planting event for registered volunteers
- Free bike repair café
- Arts & crafts
- Hands-on ivy weaving demonstrations
- Interactive community booths including the North Shore Streamkeepers, North Shore Black Bear Society, City of North Vancouver Fire Department, North Vancouver Library, BC Native Bee Society, Metro Vancouver 3D Watershed Model
City Park Stewards volunteers will lead ecosystem restoration activities, including invasive plant removal. Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to register at cnv.org/CityParkStewards. No experience is necessary and training and tools will be provided.
About the Bike Repair Café
The free bike repair café will feature one-on-one hands-on maintenance sessions led by experienced mechanics from Our Community Bikes. Mechanics will answer questions and provide tune-ups, diagnostics and repair advice. Sessions are first come, first served, with one bike per session per person. E-bikes are accepted, but mechanics will only look at mechanical components.
