Construction has begun on the Eastside Connector project to enhance and expand the City’s active transportation network and make it easier, safer and more comfortable for people to walk, cycle or roll around the community.
The Eastside Connector will promote more connected travel across the City by creating a continuous, accessible, All Ages and Abilities (AAA) route linking West Grand Boulevard to the new Crosscut Bridge (formerly the Casano-Loutet Overpass).
The project will benefit all modes of transportation through safer intersections, improved separation between users, better lighting for all day comfort and safety, and smoother traffic operations on East Grand Blvd through two new coordinated signals at 13th and 15th Streets.
The project includes two corridors - West Grand Boulevard, from East 19th Street to East Keith Road, and East 17th Street from West Grand Boulevard to Crosscut Bridge at the north end of Loutet Park. Works include bike lane upgrades, a new multi-use path, a new neighbourhood bikeway, and improved intersections, lighting and wayfinding signage.
Construction will occur in phases to reduce impact on the community. Work is now underway around Loutet Park to support the route’s connection to the bridge, and along West Grand Blvd between 9th and 13th Streets. In the coming weeks, work will continue along other segments of West Grand Blvd, as well as construction of new traffic signals on East Grand Blvd and electrical work on E 17th St between Grand Blvd and Loutet Park.
The City expects minor construction impacts. These include temporary parking restrictions, temporary removal of some boulevard plants, and temporary driving lane restrictions on West Grand Blvd. No trees will need to be removed. Homes and businesses directly within construction areas will receive advance notice on what impacts to expect locally during work, and on-site signage will indicate construction locations.
Construction is expected to be complete by September 2026, depending on weather conditions and work progress.
The Eastside Connector belongs to a series of projects coordinated between the City and the District of North Vancouver to deliver pedestrian and cycling network improvements approaching the Crosscut Bridge, scheduled to open in summer 2026.
Together, the Eastside Connector, Crosscut Bridge and the District’s Kirkstone Park cycling route provide a comfortable alternative to Lynn Valley Rd for people walking and rolling between key destinations like Sutherland Secondary School, employment hubs and services in the City, and Lynn Valley Town Centre.
