Celebrate Persian New Year and the First Day of Spring

Nowruz – which means “new day” – is a holiday marking the arrival of spring and the first day of the year in Iran. Here’s what's happening around the City.

Library Events

Stop by the North Vancouver City Library for Nowruz-themed events on several days:

• Nowruz display in the Lobby - March 14-25, including Nowruz brochure by North Shore Immigrant Inclusion Partnership (NSIIP), Nowruz booklist, and Haft Sin table (an arrangement of seven symbolic items)
• Nowruz Celebration - Saturday, March 18, 10-11am and 11:30am-12:30pm
• Nowruz Egg Painting and Story Time with Roshana School  - Saturday, March 18, 2-3pm

The Pipe Shop at The Shipyards

• Persian Public Market hosted by Termeh Events - March 10, 5-8pm and March 11-12, 11am-8pm

MONOVA

MONOVA will display a Haft Sin table starting on March 15, and host the event:

• Nowruz Tale and Paint with Roshana School - Sunday, March 19, 10:30am-12pm and 12:30-2pm. Included with admission

City Hall and Civic Plaza

City Hall will display a Haft Sin table near the 14th Street entrance for the public to view, which will be up from March 13 to 31, and host an event in Civic Plaza:

• Traditional Middle Eastern Dance performance by AMED Dance Academy – Wednesday, March 15, 1-1:30pm

North Vancouver Recreation and Culture

NVRC will be installing traditional displays to celebrate and build awareness of Nowruz.
