Election day is Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Register Early to Vote

Save time on election day! Register in advance on the Elections BC website by August 18, 2026.

General local elections (and by-elections) are the most direct way for the public to influence their local government and school district by determining the individuals who make decisions and govern on their behalf for the next four years. 

Eligible voters for the City of North Vancouver will cast their ballots to elect individuals for a four-year term for the following positions:

  • a mayor
  • six councillors
  • three school trustees

Who Can Vote

The City welcomes all eligible voters including individuals who live here, individuals who own residential property here, and Members of the Squamish Nation.

Resident Electors

To vote in the City of North Vancouver election as a resident elector, you must:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen;
  • Be 18 years of age or older on the day of registration or on General Voting Day;
  • Be a resident of the City of North Vancouver on the day of registration;
  • Be a resident of Ustlawn (Mission 1 Reserve)
  • Have been a resident of B.C. for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • Not be disqualified from voting in an election.

Corporations, businesses and permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants) who have not yet become Canadian Citizens are not permitted to vote.

Non-Resident Property Electors

Non-resident property electors are individuals who own property in the City and live elsewhere in B.C. To vote as a non-resident property elector, you must:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen;
  • Be 18 years of age or older on the day of registration or on General Voting Day;
  • Have been a resident of B.C. for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
  • Not be disqualified from voting in an election;
  • Be a registered owner of real property in the City for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration;
  • Be registered as a non-resident property elector only in relation to one parcel of real property in the City; and
  • If applicable, have written consent from majority of registered owners.

Non-resident property electors must NOT hold the real property in trust for a corporation or another trust.

Squamish Nation Residents

Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) residents living on Ustlawn – Mission 1 Reserve are eligible to vote in the City’s general local election. For more information, review the Provincial Voter’s Guide for Electors Living on Reserve.


Register to Vote

In order to cast a ballot, eligible voters must be registered. The City of North Vancouver uses the provincial voters list. If you are already on the voters list from a previous election, or have completed the online advanced registration by August 18, 2026, then you should be registered on the City's list of electors.

If you are not on the Voters’ List, you can register at a voting location. 

Register In Advance

Visit the Elections BC website for the following:

  • Register to vote (or confirm your existing registration) if you are 18 years or older
  • Update voter information (such as a change of address or name)
  • Pre-register for the future list of voters (if you are 16 or 17 years old).

The deadline for advanced registration is August 18, 2026.

Register When You Vote

If you are not on the voter’s list, you can register at a voting place during Advance Voting, on General Voting Day, or when requesting a mail ballot package.

To register, you must show two pieces of identification that prove your identity and residential address. One piece must include your signature (e.g., driver’s licence, BC Services Card). If neither document shows your residential address, you may make a solemn declaration.

Non resident property electors must show two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity and eligibility in relation to the property (e.g., property tax notice, certificate of title). If applicable, written consent from the majority of property owners must be provided. Only one owner may register as a non resident property elector.

Acceptable Voter ID

When registering to vote, you will need to provide two pieces of acceptable identification. 

These two pieces of identification will prove who you are and where you live (i.e. name and residential address). One piece of identification must also include your signature.

  • Monthly Report/Request for Continued Income Assistance
  • Nexus Border Card
  • Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle License issued by ICBC
  • Property tax notice issued by the City of North Vancouver
  • Social Insurance Card
  • Statutory Declaration/Sworn Affidavit (from a notary public, lawyer, or commissioner for taking affidavits)
  • Student Identification Card
  • Utility bill (electricity, natural gas. water, telephone, or cable service)


How to Vote

Advance Voting

Eligible voters for the City of North Vancouver can cast their ballot at any of the following advance voting opportunities.

WHERE: City Hall, 141 West 14th St, North Vancouver 

WHEN:

  • Oct. 7, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
  • Oct. 10, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Oct. 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
  • Oct. 14, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
  • Oct. 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Curbside Voting – Advance Voting Periods

Accessible curbside voting is available to support voters who are unable to access the voting place. Additional information is forthcoming.  

General Voting Day

Eligible voters for the City of North Vancouver can cast their ballot at any of the following locations.

Mail Ballot Voting

All eligible electors are able to apply to vote by mail ballot. Additional information is forthcoming.

Special Voting for Patients of Healthcare Facilities

Special voting opportunities will be available and provided to patients of the following healthcare facilities: 

  • Lions Gate Hospital & HOpe Centre – October 10, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Evergreen House & Northshore Hospice – October 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
