Lawn Bowling

The City of North Vancouver is building two new Lawn Bowling greens (artificial turf) adjacent to the Mickey McDougall Community Recreation Centre. These greens will replace the existing North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club, which is scheduled to close in the summer of 2020.

As part of the Lawn Bowling project, site enhancements such as sidewalk and pedestrian lighting upgrades, new street trees, on-site parking and a new public green space will be completed. A future project phase will consider the construction of a field house.

Upcoming Site Activities

In May and June 2020, you will see the erection of site safety fencing, contractor mobilization, demolition of existing field and removal of landscaping in order to prepare the site for the new lawn bowling greens.

The installation of the Greens is scheduled to take place in the summer months and final site enhancements and site services will occur in the fall of 2020.

The contractor will follow the COVID-19 site safety protocols as mandated by construction industry best practice, the BC Government and Worksafe BC.

The existing Mickey McDougall Community Recreation Centre is not impacted by construction.

North Vancouver Lawn bowling relocation project area

The North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club (NVLBC) has operated as a non-profit society from a City-owned facility at 2160 Lonsdale Avenue since 1923.

In 2017, as part of the Harry Jerome Community Centre Redevelopment project, a feasibility study to relocate the North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club to a portion of the Mickey McDougall site (gravel field and 2 tennis courts) was undertaken.

Public Information sessions for the overall Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre redevelopment, including the proposed relocation of Lawn Bowling Club to Mickey McDougall field, were held in May 2017, February and March 2018. Feedback received on the concept design for the Mickey McDougall site was incorporated into the final Lawn Bowling design and included site grading, preferred location for the lawn bowling greens and fieldhouse (to be set back from NE corner) as well as inclusion of a new public green space at the corner of St. Andrews and 23rd Street. Detailed design of the facility was undertaken in 2018 / 2019.

Construction tendering for the project occurred in early 2020. A decision to proceed with construction of the Greens and Site Works component was confirmed in March 2020.

Construction of the current Lawn Bowling greens and site works is expected to take place between May and Fall of 2020.

The planning and construction of a fieldhouse to support lawn bowling activities will be explored as a future phase.
