Tree Protection Bylaw

November 18, 2021

Did you know our public street tree canopy has grown to over 10,000 trees across the city, consistent with other Metro Vancouver cities of this size?

On November 15, Council received an update on the City’s work toward a tree protection bylaw, which will help protect our tree canopy and contribute to a healthy, sustainable community.

The proposed bylaw will put processes into place that will determine when trees should or should not be removed, and establish a permit process for multi-unit residential, commercial and institutional properties, as well as penalties for infractions.

Watch for the initial tree protection bylaw to be brought to Council in early 2022. Learn more at cnv.org/trees.
