Sustainable Features

The Library was awarded LEED Gold certification by the Canadian Green Building Council in early 2015 and is one of only four buildings on the North Shore to hold this accreditation. The Library was designed and built with sustainability in mind and is the first facility in Central Lonsdale to enjoy high efficiency district energy service provided by the award winning Lonsdale Energy Corporation.

Solar panels installed atop the library generate alternative energy which helps to power LEC's high efficiency boilers. The condensing boilers, which have a more than 92% efficiency provide heat for the library and surrounding buildings that are served by the LEC system.

Library sustainable features:

  • A low energy consumption, low noise HVAC system
  • A dedicated outdoor air system
  • Radiant slab heating/cooling ceiling system
  • A central water-to-water heat pump plant
  • Low flush fixtures
  • Solar shading
  • A high efficiency lighting system
  • An energy saving monitoring system
  • Green housekeeping
