City of North Vancouver Wins 2026 Award for Leadership in Active Transportation

March 5, 2026

The City of North Vancouver has received a HUB Cycling award for leadership in active transportation.

The City received HUB’s 2026 Biggest Leap Award for showing strong leadership in advancing active transportation through clear policy commitments and by building safe, connected infrastructure.

The Awards Committee cited projects including 1st Street Mobility Corridor, Esplanade Complete Street, and the forthcoming Casano-Loutet Overpass as demonstrations of the City’s commitment to rebalancing street space and improving conditions for everyday trips by walking, cycling and rolling.

Mayor Linda Buchanan accepted the award on behalf of the City on Tuesday, March 3 at HUB Cycling’s 13th Annual Bike Awards ceremony.

“The City of North Vancouver has long recognized that promoting walking and cycling, and delivering active transportation infrastructure to support it is one of the most effective ways to build healthier, more connected communities,” Mayor Buchanan said. “We are honoured to be recognized by HUB Cycling for this commitment, and Council remains focused on advancing our Mobility Strategy to ensure everyone can move safely and sustainably throughout our city.”

HUB Cycling is a charitable non-profit organization that has spent over 25 years removing barriers to cycling in Metro Vancouver while cultivating active transportation's health, environmental, and economic benefits. Read more about the HUB Bike Awards.
