SASTP Carson Graham Walkabout

In the 2016/2017 school year, the Safe and Active School Travel Program was launched at Carson Graham Secondary. This program is an 18 month program funded by the City and facilitated by HASTe, HUB for Active School Travel. Carson Graham is the first secondary school in the City of North Vancouver to be involved in SASTP. The program began with a survey of students to better understand the current modes of transportation and the top safety issues around the school and surrounding neighbourhood. A stakeholder group consisting of students, school and City staff, and other community partners then completed a ‘walkabout’ to physically assess the area around the school and develop a list of issues and opportunities relating to infrastructure improvements, as well as education and engagement initiatives.

Together, these safe and active travel programs and initiatives will decrease congestion near the school drop off zones, reduce pollutants from idling vehicles, and provide students with more physical activity each day.

To support the Safe and Active School Travel Program, Community Initiatives 10 students created a poster and video campaign to promote walking, biking and rolling in the City. The videos from each of the five groups can be viewed below:
