Spirit of the Season | December

The Spirit of the Season kicks off December 4th, but the festive spirit lasts all month. The Shipyards will be transformed into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights and festive decorations, and there's plenty of holiday happenings planned throughout December.


Fire Department Toy Drive

November 29 – December 18

Our City Fire Department is collecting new, unwrapped toys for the holiday season. Help bring holiday cheer to children, tweens, teens and families in need by dropping off toys at the City Fire Hall until December 18th. Please note: Toys must be in original packaging. No perishable food items. All donations are given to Family Services of the North Shore.


Living Lane Light & Art Installation

December - January 1

The City’s Play team has partnered with NV Arts and artist Otilia Spantulescu to animate Living Lane Alley, located between 100 and 130 Lonsdale Avenue. Take in the temporary art installation set within the lights to create an intimate and cozy setting.


Holiday Light Experience

December - January

Get into the spirit of the season with a stroll through The Shipyards holiday light displays, including the twinkling lights on The Pier, Wallace Mews and the Skate Plaza. There are plenty of festive photo opportunities for you and your loved ones. 

Centennial Theatre

Throughout December
A variety of festive concerts and performances are taking place at Centennial Theatre during the month of December. Visit www.nvrc.ca/centennial-theatre for the calendar for events and to purchase tickets.


Seasonal Singing in Civic Plaza

Thursdays, December 2-16, 12-1:30pm
Musicians will be performing at the Plaza Deck every Thursday in December, from 12-1pm. Music is free, performances are rain or shine, and everyone is welcome to enjoy. Lineup includes:


Pipe Shop Holiday Markets

Weekends December 4 – 19, 2021
The Pipe Shop plays host to a number of holiday markets this December. Find the perfect local gift for everyone on your shopping list.


Holiday Music in the City

We've got some festive pop up performances happening around the City this holiday season. It's all part of PLAY, our placemaking program that animates the City's public spaces.

Burrard Yacht Club ‘Festival of Lights’

December 11, 6pm
Watch brightly lit yachts sail by Waterfront Park and Lonsdale Quay.


Holiday Skate Performance

December 23, 6pm
Artssa Skating Academy presents Christmas with Ginji; a story of dancing on ice and the spirit of giving. Holiday performance begins at 6pm with free skate lessons and photos with their character Ginji to follow.


A Christmas Story & Caroling

December 24, 4:30pm
Join CapChurch Christmas Carol Sing and Christmas Story Time at 4:30pm in Shipbuilders’ Square.


New Years Eve at The Skate Plaza

December 31, 6-8pm
Skate into the New Year with us at The Shipyards Skate Plaza! Start your evening celebrations off by skating to live music from 6-8pm.

Holiday Hours

City Hall Seasonal Hours 

City Hall will be closed from December 24 at noon until January 4th at 8:30am for the holidays; our online services are available 24/7. For after hours emergencies during please call 604-988-2212.

City Library Seasonal Hours

North Vancouver City Library holiday hours are available on the library website.

Community Recreational Facilities Seasonal Hours

All of the City's recreational facilities are closed on December 25. Other days and hours of operation vary with each facility over the holiday season - contact each facility directly for details:
