Fees & Where to Charge Your EV

Types of EV Charging Stations

Level 2 charging uses a dedicated 208V or 240V circuit (i.e. same as a clothes dryer) and requires a specialized station. Level 2 chargers can fully recharge a vehicle in 4 to 6 hours and are commonly used in homes, workplaces, and public charging locations.

Direct current (DC) fast charging uses a 480V circuit and requires a specialized station and utility connection. DC fast chargers can recharge a vehicle in approximately 30 minutes and are well-suited for public charging locations close to amenities or transit corridors.

City Charging Station Fees

Fees vary depending on the time of day and the type of charging station used. Revenue from the charging stations will help us increase turnover at our stations, cover operating costs for the stations, and fund expansion of the network.

Fees apply at all City electric vehicle charging stations and are calculated by total minutes used.

  • DC Fast Charging Stations: $0.20 per minute (located at City Hall and Brooksbank). Fees apply 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
  • Level 2 Stations: $2 per hour. Fees apply 9am - 6pm, 7 days a week; evening and overnight charging is free. Stations are located at:
    • City Hall
    • Library parkade (no overnight parking)
    • Kinsmen/Mahon (no overnight parking)
    • West Grand Boulevard
    • Lawn Bowling Club
    • City operations Centre (unavailable during operational hours on weekdays 6am-5pm)

We've selected rates that are as low as possible to encourage the continued use of electric vehicles, while allowing us to improve access to our network and fund its expansion.

Public Charging Network

The City owns and operates a growing public charging network of Level 2 and DC Fast Charging stations across the City to support residents without access to home or workplace charging, as well as visitors to the City. A number of private businesses and other organizations also provide charging in the City.

Find an EV charging station near you or your destination using online maps and mobile apps such as PlugShare.
