Roadwork & Construction Updates


Roadwork and construction occurs throughout the City on an intermittent basis. During these times, the City advises residents and commuters to expect minor traffic delays and parking disruptions and to choose an alternate route if possible. Signage is posted prior to any road closures and regular updates are provided below.

720 E 3rd Street October 7, 2019 Late-October 2019
Lonsdale Energy Corporation is installing district energy lines. Expect partial road closures, single lane alternating traffic during construction. Parking will be affected. Hours of work: Monday to Friday: 7am – 4pm, Saturday: 9am – 7pm (if required).
Ridgeway & E 2nd intersection September 23, 2019
Mid-October 2019 Lonsdale Energy Corporation is installing district energy lines. Expect road closures, detours, single lane alternating traffic during construction for 24 hours. Parking will be affected. Hours of work: Monday to Friday: 7am – 4pm, Saturday: 9am – 7pm (if required).
310 E 3rd Street September 30, 2019 Mid-October 2019 Lonsdale Energy Corporation is installing concrete manhole over the existing valves. The construction crew may do some repairs on the existing district energy lines on St. Andrew’s at the intersection with E 3rd St.  Expect delays and partial lane closures during construction hours. Parking will be affected. Hours of work: Monday to Friday: 7am – 4pm, Saturday: 9am – 7pm (if required). 
Fell Ave & Marine Dr area September 3, 2019 November 30, 2019 Telus is relocating ducts away from the Mosquito Creek Bridge this year in preparation for next year’s Mosquito Creek Bridge Replacement project. Traffic will be accommodated, but there may be delays and detours.
400-700 blocks E 3rd St (St Patricks to Queensbury) September 9, 2019 September 27, 2019 City crews will be repairing the road surface on East 3rd Street from St. Patricks Ave. to Queensbury Ave. The work is expected to take about 3 weeks to complete, depending on the weather. During construction lane closures and detours will be in effect. Hours of work 7am to 11pm daily.
Lonsdale @ 13th St intersection
TBA TBA First section – west half of intersection closed. Eastbound vehicles detoured at Chesterfield Avenue, with north-south traffic reduced to one lane. 
Second section – east half of intersection closed. Eastbound vehicles detoured at Lonsdale Avenue, with north-south traffic reduced to one lane and a left-turn bay closure for westbound traffic. Hours of work 7am to 4:30pm. Expect delays. Detours will be in place.
B-Line 3rd St between Lonsdale & Queensbury August 8, 2019 November 2019 B-Line construction. To make way for the bus, bicycle lane, and right turn lane, limited tree removal of approximately four trees is required in order to widen the road. At times, lane closures will be necessary.
B-Line Esplanade & Lonsdale Ave July 22, 2019 November B-Line construction. Creation of left turn lanes, adding new signals and pedestrian crossings and paving. To make way for the new left turn lanes, limited curb removal will be required on Esplanade at Lonsdale and Chesterfield in order to widen the road. www.cnv.org/Bline
Mosquito Creek Lane + Fell Ave July 29, 2019 End of Sept 2019 Lonsdale Energy Corporation is installing district energy main line crossing Mosquito Creek at Marine Drive Bridge. The closure will be on Mosquito Creek Lane – between Lane North of W 14th Street and Marine Drive and right NB lane on Fell Ave about 25m from intersection with Marine Drive Hours of work, Monday – Friday: 7am – 4pm, Saturday: 9am – 7pm (if required).
B-Line Marine Drive from Mackay to Bewicke July 2, 2019 October  2019 B-Line construction. Reducing the existing median to make way for the westbound lane by. Trees in the median between Hamilton and Hanes will be removed. New trees and shrubs will be planted in the median. At times, lane closures will be necessary, requiring eastbound and westbound cyclists and vehicles to share the travel lane. www.cnv.org/Bline
B-Line 3rd St Heywood to Queensbury June 17, 2019 October 2019 B-Line construction. Work will include: creation of eastbound bus lane, protected bike lanes on 3rd St hill, and paving. At times, lane closures will be necessary, requiring eastbound and westbound cyclists and vehicles to share the travel lane. Please expect delays and detours. www.cnv.org/Bline
B-Line Cotton Rd from Gladstone to Brooksbank June 10, 2019 November 2019 Work is part of B-Line project. Construction related to making way for off-street bike path and bus lane, limited tree trimming and the removal of approximately six trees is required in order to widen the road. At times, lane closures will be required. Traffic will be accommodated, but there may be delays and detours. Business access and on-street parking will not be affected. www.cnv.org/Bline
Translink Lonsdale Quay Transit Exchange Project April 29, 2019 Early 2020 All buses will serve the exchange; however, some bus stops will be temporarily relocated and some routes will be altered. New Mountain Highway Overpass is now open. Construction continues on Mountain Highway Interchange.

Phases 2 & 4 (Keith Rd/Seymour Interchange and Lynn Creek Connectivity Improvements ) are scheduled to start construction in Spring 2019 with anticipated completion in late Fall 2021.
