Walking

Walking is the most fundamental form of transportation. Everyone is a pedestrian at some point in their day. It's how transit passengers reach their destination, how people driving get from the curb to the front door, and those riding a bike get from the bike rack to their end point. The City is committed to making walking an attractive and convenient mobility choice for residents of all ages and abilities. The City has developed the Walk CNV Pedestrian Plan Framework.

Walk CNV builds on the goals and objectives in the Official Community Plan, Long Term Transportation Plan, Parks and Greenways Strategic Plan and the Social Plan.

Walking will become the preferred way to move around the City of North Vancouver, thanks to a strong culture of health and wellness and a commitment to great design, comfort, accessibility and safety.

Current State of Walking in the City Report

The Current State of Walking in the City Report (2017) helped guide our Walk CNV Pedestrian Plan, and includes a snapshot of the community in relation to walking. The report also includes a review of the community including its demographics and the existing policies, a summary of the benefits of walking and information about the existing walking travel patterns and infrastructure conditions.

Benefits of Walking

Walking is a great way to get around and is one of the best ways to get and stay physically active. It's accessible and inexpensive, all you need is a good pair of shoes. Walking also helps to create more livable communities, reduce vehicle-related air pollution and reduce traffic congestion.
