Highway 1 Temporary Closure for Casano-Loutet Overpass Construction

January 27, 2026

A section of Highway 1 will be temporarily closed for one evening next week as construction continues on the Casano-Loutet pedestrian and cycling overpass.

The City is preparing to deliver a new overpass connection between schools, services and neighbourhoods by summer 2026. Once complete, the overpass will provide people of all ages and abilities with a safe and accessible pathway over Highway 1 for walking, rolling or cycling.

The project will link the Loutet and Cedar Village areas via a bridge stretching from Loutet Park over the Upper Levels Highway to the intersection of Casano Drive and Rufus Avenue.

Installation of the overpass’ steel bridge structure across the highway is scheduled to occur next week. In order to complete this work safely, Highway 1 will be closed on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 between Lonsdale Ave interchange and Main St interchange, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The City is committed to ensuring minimal disruption to the community and recommends planning an alternative route during the closure period.

A map detailing the planned detour route is available on the City’s project webpage.

The closure will occur in coordination with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, and is subject to change based on weather conditions.
