New Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre to Open July 2026

March 4, 2026

The new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC) will officially open its doors to the public in late July.

During the March 2nd Council meeting, City staff confirmed the opening timing of the much-anticipated, state-of-the-art complex designed by award-winning architecture firm HCMA.

“The opening of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre marks a transformative moment for North Vancouver, and it’s been long-awaited with excitement”, said City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan. “This is more than a community recreation centre, it is a bold investment in our health, wellbeing and shared future. We are incredibly proud to deliver a world-class facility that honours Harry Jerome’s remarkable legacy of excellence, perseverance, and community spirit. With this new centre, we reaffirm our commitment to building a healthier, more inclusive city where people of all ages and abilities can thrive.”

The new centre will feature an NHL-sized arena with spectator seating for up to 500 people; multiple aquatics and wellness spaces; a community kitchen; a full-sized gymnasium; indoor and outdoor fitness spaces; art, youth, preschool and multi-purpose spaces; along with a number of informal gathering areas, a café and more. With over 188,450 square feet of program space, each part of the centre is being crafted with the community's physical and mental health, wellness, inclusion and diversity in mind.

The centre will be operated by North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission and will house a variety of programs, services and rentals. In addition, the unique indoor and outdoor spaces provide opportunities for casual community connections and events. Transition details between the current HJCRC and the new centre will be communicated in the coming months.

As part of the broader project, residents can also look forward to the opening of the new Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre and the reopening of the Mickey McDougall Community Recreation Centre, currently under renovation as the future home of Flicka Gymnastics. Together with the new HJCRC, these facilities and the recently completed North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Clubhouse and Greens create a new and vibrant recreation precinct, strengthening North Vancouver’s commitment to accessible, inclusive, and intergenerational community spaces.
