New Neighbourhood Park Opens in Central Lonsdale

July 24, 2025

The City of North Vancouver is excited to announce the official opening of Topo Park, a new 0.22-hectare neighbourhood park located at the corner of East 16th Street and St. Andrews Avenue in Central Lonsdale.

This vibrant new green space offers a welcoming and accessible environment for residents and visitors to gather, play, and connect with nature right in the heart of Central Lonsdale.

“Topo Park captures the spirit of North Vancouver — a vibrant, playful space that celebrates our City’s natural sloped terrain,” said City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan. “This park will serve as a hub for people of all ages, fostering connection and well-being in our growing community.”

About the Design

Topo Park is designed to encourage year-round use, with features that prioritize accessibility, sustainability, and community well-being. The park includes:

  • A gently sloping lawn for casual play and social gatherings
  • Custom-designed wooden play structures, including a concrete slide and climbing wall
  • A harvest table, shade trellis (to be installed in late summer 2025), and diverse seating options
  • Dense plantings and shade trees for comfort and cooling
  • Pathways and lighting to ensure safety and accessibility

About the Name

The name ‘Topo’ is an abbreviation of the word ‘topography,’ inspired by how the park’s design creatively embraces the site’s natural five-metre slope. Fun and functional design elements, like the climbing wall, large hill slide, and sloped stage with unique stepped seating, make the most of this dramatic terrain.

Built with Community in Mind

Topo Park was developed in response to the increasing demand for public outdoor spaces in Central Lonsdale. The park’s design was shaped by community input during a public engagement process in 2021. Construction began in the summer of 2024 and was completed in July 2025. The park was delivered in partnership with Cressey Development Group as a condition of nearby development.

Topo Park is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to expand green space in Central Lonsdale, joining another park currently under development at 1600 Eastern Avenue.

Looking Ahead

“Topo Park is a great example of how we’re enhancing public and natural spaces to meet the evolving needs of our city,” said Mayor Buchanan. “We’re committed to ensuring every resident has easy access to nature and welcoming places to gather — neighbourhood parks like this are central to that vision.”
