Earlier today, the City of North Vancouver along with neighbouring District of North Vancouver were jointly named Canada's most liveable city for 2024 by the Globe and Mail newspaper.
This annual list analyzes data from 448 Canadian cities with populations over 10,000 across a number of categories and variables including housing, climate, healthcare, safety, education and public amenities like parks and public spaces.
North Vancouver (combining City and District) was ranked highly in the community category shaped by high levels of volunteerism, access to community centres and a sense of belonging among residents. The two cities were also noted for key measures of liveability like access to nature, schools and public spaces and amenities like The Shipyards, parks, shopping and recreation facilities.
“Being recognized as Canada’s most liveable city is a testament to the people who make North Vancouver what it is—vibrant, connected, and resilient,” said City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan. “This honour highlights our success in creating a city where life is truly about quality. As we look to the future, I am focused on building upon our successes so we remain a place where everyone feels they belong, where our greenspaces are preserved, and where our public spaces inspire connection and joy. Together, we’ll continue to build a city that puts people at its heart and sets a standard for liveability across the country."
This year North Vancouver moved up to the top of the list, a ranking held by City of Victoria in 2023. The data analysis project also ranks other types of liveable cities, including: most livable cities for raising kids, for retirement, and for young professionals.
