Increased Traffic & Crowds Anticipated in Lower Lonsdale on September 20, 2025

September 18, 2025

The annual Shipyards Festival returns on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 12 to 9 p.m.

Hosted by Lower Lonsdale Business Improvement Area (LLBIA), this free community celebration features live music on multiple stages, local vendors, and fun activations throughout The Shipyards and the 100 Block of East 1st Street.

Road Closures & Parking Changes

To keep the festival safe and enjoyable for everyone, a few road closures and parking restrictions will be in place:

East 1st Street (Friday, Sept 19 – Sunday, Sept 21)

  • From 7 a.m. Friday, Sept 19 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept 21, the 100 block of East 1st Street (between Lonsdale and St. Georges Ave) will be closed to vehicles and parking.
  • EV chargers at 140 East 1st Street will not be available.
  • On Saturday, Sept 20, the east/west lane north of East 1st will be local traffic only.  Parking lot access will be from East 2nd.

The Shipyards (Saturday, Sept 20 only)

  • From 5 a.m. to midnight, loading bays on Victory Ship Way and Wallace Mews will have event-only parking.

Getting Around During the Festival

Big crowds are expected with the music, food, and family-friendly fun! Please plan ahead:

  • Parking in the area may be limited.
  • Expect traffic congestion and possible transit delays. Check bus updates at translink.ca/alerts.
  • Allow yourself extra travel time.
  • And most of all — bring your patience and enjoy the festive atmosphere!

The Best Way to Get Here

We encourage visitors to walk, bike, or take transit to The Shipyards and Lower Lonsdale:

  • The SeaBus arrives right at The Shipyards, with buses connecting nearby.
  • Bike racks are available throughout the area.
  • The waterfront and connecting trails make it easy (and fun) to arrive on foot with friends and family.

We’re excited to see everyone back for another lively Shipyards Festival. See you there!
