Businesses in Action

Businesses are in a unique position, and have the potential to make a huge impact through leadership in waste reduction and energy conservation. Your business can achieve significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and save money, be more competitive, and lead the way towards a vibrant, more liveable community.

How You Can Take Action

Managing Your Waste

With land at a premium and landfill sites filling up, garbage tipping fees are on the rise. Metro Vancouver's organics disposal ban is also effective as of January 1, 2015, requiring everyone to separate out food scraps, food soiled paper and other organic material from the garbage.

Work with your hauler to reduce costs by separating out recyclables and food scraps, which cost far less than garbage going to disposal. Many haulers offer free waste audits to determine what type of recycling and food scraps program is most effective for your business.

The following haulers service City businesses:

Further cut down on disposal costs by reducing waste and not creating it in the first place. Some examples are going paperless, maintaining equipment properly and renting goods when possible.
