Electric Vehicle Strategy

Endorsed on September 17, 2018 the Electric Vehicle Strategy is the City’s guide to encouraging electric vehicle adoption. The Strategy includes an overarching goal, a set of objectives and 30 priority actions to be implemented over the next five years in five key areas:

  1. Charging Infrastructure: New Construction
  2. Charging Infrastructure: Existing Buildings
  3. Public Charging Network
  4. City Fleet and Equipment
  5. Education and Outreach

The City has long been a leader in advancing sustainable transportation initiatives. The City’s approach to transportation encourages walking, cycling, transit and rideshare through strategic planning and land use decisions to reduce reliance on single occupant travel. Shifting from fossil fuel-powered private vehicles to low or zero emission vehicles is another key strategy in advancing sustainable transportation in the City.

The Strategy was informed by the results of engagement activities with input from residents, EV advocates, businesses, institutions and other stakeholders. The Strategy integrates and builds on past work, including the goals and objectives of the Official Community Plan (OCP) and the Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP).
