Report Indicates that LEC's Rate Structure is Among the Lowest in the Region
LEC has recently presented to the Council of the City of North Vancouver a report from the City of Vancouver that found that LEC has among the lowest customer rates surveyed in the Lower Mainland. The analysis completed by the City of Vancouver indicated that LEC's rates were estimated to be among the lowest of five district energy systems reviewed. As well, based on the City of Vancouver estimates contained in their report, it would cost on average 22% more for LEC customers to use electricity or in-building stand-alone boilers to heat their buildings. The City of Vancouver report as well as a cover report prepared by LEC was discussed with its regulator, the City of North Vancouver, at a City Council meeting on February 27, 2012. The reports discussed at this meeting are available here. Central Heat Distribution Limited has indicated that the figures contained in the City of Vancouver report are erroneous. In response, the City of Vancouver has provided additional information regarding Central Heat that can be viewed here.
Commodity Charge Update
Decrease to: $0.03217 per kilowatt hour
Effective: April 1, 2012
By bylaw, LEC's regulator, the City of North Vancouver, authorizes LEC management to make adjustments to the Commodity Charge to reflect market pricing fluctuations.
The Commodity Charge is adjusted to follow the purchase price of 1,000 GJ/month of gas under Terasen Gas' Rate Schedule 3. Terasen Gas has adjusted its pricing schedule effective April 1, 2012. As of that date, LEC's Commodity charge is to decrease from $0.03638 per kilowatt hour to $0.03217 per kilowatt hour. The decrease is to match a 11.57% decrease in the cost of purchasing the equivalent of the above-mentioned quantity of gas. Click on the link below to access a table, which calculates how this adjustment affects LEC's Commodity Charge. LEC's Meter Charge and Capacity Charge are not affected by the adjustment.
Bylaw 8086
The newly adopted bylaw 8086 eliminates the three distinct Lonsdale Energy Corporation service areas and expands the service area to the whole City. As such, any new building of more than 1,000 square meters is required to connect to the district heating system for heating purposes unless it is determined by the City's Director of Finance that the cost to the City would be excessive. Bylaw 8086 also allows LEC to provide cooling services in buildings planning to be equipped with air conditioning systems. Depending on the size and nature of the system, LEC may be able to use the heat generated during the cooling process in its heating network. Connection of properties to LEC's cooling system is optional.
HST Savings Now in Effect

Current and future LEC customers may realize savings of approximately 4-5%. Click here to learn more about the impact of the HST on LEC charges.
Meter Charge Update
Decrease to: $150.00 per month
Effective: January 1, 2010
LEC's regulator, the City of North Vancouver, has approved Bylaw No. 8059 which decreases LEC's Meter Charge as of January 1, 2010. Effective this date, the Meter Charge decreases from $299.34 per month to $150.00 per month.
