Green Necklace at Mahon Park

The second section of the Green Necklace was completed in late 2015.

This section of greenway runs along Jones Avenue from West Keith Road to West 21st Street. It extends the tree-lined boulevards of the first section along Keith Road, providing a safe, accessible, off-street route for both pedestrians and recreational cyclists. By doing so, it provides an important connection to the sports fields, play spaces and natural areas of Mahon Park and Carson Graham Secondary.

The City of North Vancouver would like to thank all members of the community who contributed to the consultation process for the second section of the Green Necklace. Your feedback helped us understand the needs and concerns of the community. These in turn became guidelines that helped shape the design of this section of greenway.

How Your Ideas Shaped the Current Greenway

  • safe, off-street, accessible path created for pedestrians and recreational cyclists
  • sharrow lanes added to Jones bike route for commuter cyclists
  • speed limit reduced to 40km/h
  • majority of existing parking preserved
  • corner bulges and boulevard bump-outs calm traffic and enhance safety
  • mature trees & environmentally sensitive area of Mahon Park protected
  • Holly trees (invasive species) replaced with native trees
