In Office

2011 to present

I have learned that building a truly successful community is a process that occurs over time and means planning for today and for the future.

Over the past term, I am proud of the work accomplished in creating a liveable, vibrant city that is welcoming to newcomers, families and seniors and supports our health and happiness.

Over this time we have been successful in creating affordable housing and child care; supporting urban agriculture; enhancing active transportation by focusing on the completion of the spirit trail and the green necklace; supporting our history and arts with the future new homes for our museum and presentation house gallery and a new level road to move people, goods and services more efficiently.

These additions to the City benefit all and have been accomplished at the same time we have kept the City's growth and taxes to one of the lowest in the region.

Over this next term, I want to continue on these endeavours as well as move forward on the continued use of alternative energy sources through Lonsdale Energy Corporation, the revitalization of Harry Jerome Recreation Centre, and see social gathering spaces such as Shipbuilder's Square and the foot of Lonsdale become a reality to build upon the success of the Friday Night Market. This will require us to continue to put equal emphasis on three broad aspects of sustainability: economic, environmental and social/cultural.

These are exciting times and as civic leaders we must continue to foster solutions to a number of challenging issues - increasing housing costs, an aging population and aging municipal infrastructure. By working together, I believe we can build on our progress in these areas by continuing our commitment to the kinds of relationships, social connections and partnerships that make healthy, happy and resilient communities. I welcome continuing this work with you.
