'LibraryThing'
is now active in the NVCL Library Catalogue:
February 13, 2008
NVCL
is one of the first two libraries in Canada to adopt a new readers'
discovery technology called 'LibraryThing'.
When
locating a book (eg. The Da Vinci Code) in the catalogue, users
will now see a collection of 'tags' as well as a list of 'similar
books' displaying on the left-hand side of the page where the item
information is displayed (See Figure below).

The
larger the tag, the more popular the tag for that title. Click on
the tag itself and a list of similarly-tagged books available at
NVCL pops up! Click on a 'similar book' title and you go directly
to the catalogue record for that similar title.
The
use of these tools instantly helps users identify and discover other
books that may be of interest. Soon,
library users will be able to upload their own 'tags' for books
they have read.
As
well as the use of LibraryThing through our catalogue members of
the public can visit the homepage of LibraryThing
to keep track of and 'tag' their own books!
To
see this in action, visit our catalogue

Accessing
the Library Entrance
As
the pace of new library construction begins to pick up, accessing
the library may become challenged for those customers using walkers,
strollers, scooters, wheelchairs and other moiblity aids.
Please
note that a path will be available from 13th and 14th streets to
the front entrance of the library at all times. However, the location
and surface of each path may change periodically, as workers will
require access to various utility lines located underground as they
progress with each phase of construction.
We
apologize in advance for any inconvenience to those finding access
to the library challenging. Any customers experiencing difficulty
accessing the entrance to the library may wish to consider our Home
Delivery Service. If interested, please call and ask to speak with
Margarete at (604) 998-3460.
If
you have any suggestions or concerns, please call the library at
(604) 998-3490. |
