2010 Torch Relay

The City of North Vancouver welcomed the Olympic Flame to Waterfront Plaza at Lonsdale Quay Market on February 10, 2010.

On Day 104 of its 106-day journey through Canadian communities, the Olympic Torch Relay arrived in the City. The City and Lonsdale Quay Market co-hosted a special event at Waterfront Plaza of Lonsdale Quay Market to celebrate the exciting arrival of the Olympic Flame.

The 2010 Torch Relay Celebration featured a First Nations drum circle and dance performance, live main stage music, a special Fire Twirlers performance, face painting, balloons and sparklers.

Olympic Flame Travels Past City Hall February 10
14th Street and Lonsdale 3:24pm
The community gathered outside Civic Plaza joining Mayor Mussatto in cheering on the Torchbearer as the Olympic Flame traveled from Civic Plaza to 17th Street.

Plaza Pond Hockey Party!
Civic Plaza 1pm - 3:30pm
In the spirit of the Olympic Games and a truly Canadian theme, local merchants hosted a unique community hockey tournament in the Civic Plaza, adjacent to the City Library. The Plaza Pond Hockey Party was played '3 on 3' pond-style on a portable ice surface. A traditional Canadian celebration to honour the Olympic Games.

Olympic Torchbearer: Lina Smith The City's official Olympic Torchbearer was Lina Smith. On February 10, 2010, Lina carried the Olympic Flame outside Civic Plaza at 14th Street and Lonsdale, marking a historic moment for the City as the torch made its way towards the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.
