Queen Mary Community Garden

Building on the success of the Lower Lonsdale Community Garden, which was built in 2004, the City of North Vancouver has established a new community garden located to the west of Queen Mary Elementary School.

The Queen Mary Community Garden site, bounded by West Keith Road, Mahon Avenue and 13th Street, provides a central location with plenty of potential for gardeners! It is highly visible, easily accessible by walking and transit and is in close proximity to Queen Mary Elementary School and dense urban development.

The Queen Mary Community Garden is based on the same governance model and layout, including allotment style gardens, as the Lower Lonsdale Community Garden. The allotment of individual plots, based on a lottery system, was conducted by the non-profit garden society.

To register on the wait list, the garden society can be contacted at: queenmarygarden@gmail.com.

In addition to the individual allotment plots, an integral component of the Queen Mary Community Garden is an Edible Garden Project Demonstration Garden. The Edible Garden Project has been operating on the North Shore since 2006 and through their innovative education programs and encouragement of small-scale food production, they have been providing access to fresh produce for those who cannot afford to purchase it, increasing awareness around the health benefits of consuming locally grown foods, and reducing reliance on transporting and importing food from afar.
