Community Initiatives & Amenities
Lower Lonsdale has become an ideal destination for residents, businesses and visitors. Not only is it one of the most diverse, attractive and sustainable neighbourhoods in BC, but its proximity to downtown Vancouver and the rest of the North Shore makes it a desirable destination for tourists and a favourite one for local residents. Lower Lonsdale is served by a number of transportation options, including the SeaBus. Situated along Burrard Inlet, the community offers spectacular views of the City of Vancouver as well as the North Shore.
In recent years, the City has added new amenities to meet the growing needs of the community. The Lower Lonsdale area presently enjoys the following benefits:
- 35,000-square foot John Braithwaite Community Centre
- 700-foot Burrard Dry Dock Pier and public promenade
- Multiple award-winning district energy service, Lonsdale Energy Corporation
- Jack Loucks Court community space
- Lonsdale Quay Market & Hotel
As part of the Waterfront Project, the City plans to expand the list of Lower Lonsdale attractions. A walkway and pedestrian overpass are being considered for the western half of the Waterfront. New residential options with stunning waterfront views will be available when the Pier Development is complete. There are also preliminary plans to create an arts and culture district in Lower Lonsdale. Presently, Esplanade is being re-aligned to provide better access to the Waterfront for residents and visitors.
